With this weekend’s passing of Oakland Raiders owner and NFL legend Al Davis, it was only a matter of time before the fearless members of the Raider nation, a group we know quite well due to our Northern California base of operations, started coming correct with the Al Davis tribute tats, and lo and behold, while the Raiders were pulling out a last minute victory over the Texans yesterday, this dude was getting Al Davis’ mug tattooed on his calf for posterity. We would have went with this, more recent photo, but to each their own. If you’re a Raiders fan looking to pay tribute to the man who started it all in a less permanent sort of way, we just grabbed a run of these awesome Quiksilver Raiders officially licensed NFL board shorts, available now at TruckerDeluxe.com.

Our Rhythm for fall should be online any day, but, in the meantime, check out the last vestiges of our summer stock of Rhythm shorts, including the Drifter Trunks (below) at TruckerDeluxe.com
It certainly makes sense that skaters, surfers and snowboarders are the clothing companies that cater to them are among those leading to charge to make clothing manufacturing and producing more ecologically friendly and sustainable; after all, those who enjoy and, if they’re lucky, make a living by excelling at outdoor activities certainly have a lot to lose in the fight against pollution and climage change. The newest brand to join the TruckerDeluxe roster, Arbor Clothing, set themselves apart from the competition by not just paying lip service to eco-consciousness and sustainability but actively seeking to create change.. Arbor was founded to design products around the goal of replacing as many environmentally harmful materials as possible, with functional, ecologically based alternatives. Their mission is to deliver performance, durability, and style in the most responsible way possible. The Pocket Tank Top (above in Deep Water, also available in Black) is a slim fit pocket tank made right here in the USA from a blend of organic cotton and bamboo viscose. This same blend is also used to create the chambray Southside shorts (below) a superbly comfortable pair of 4-pocket casual shorts. Arbor Clothing also gives 5% of their profits to groups like The Nature Conservancy, The Surfrider Foundation, The Rainforest Action Network, and American Forests, and is working with a company called True Offsets to restore forests in Hawaii, which makes their company a less than 0 carbon emitter. So if you’re looking for a clothing company that puts their money where their mouth is, check out Arbor Clothing at TruckerDeluxe.com.
Whether with pants or shorts, one of the easiest easiest ways to add some extra versatility to your summer outfit selection is giving the legs a few good rolls. Of course, it takes the right kind of shorts to pull off this cuffed look successfully, and the new Obey Everyday Chambray Shorts (above in Indigo, also available in Black, below) are the perfect lightweight cotton shorts for the task. Match a pair of these shorts with some Rainbow sandals like the Premier Leather flip-flops, as pictured, or with a good casual boat shoe like the Creative Recreation Luchese, and you’ll have yourself a summer look fit for sailing off Martha’s Vineyard, or just drinking Carlo Rossi with the boys by the creek.

As part of our continuing series of interviews with the people behind some of our favorite brands, today we sit down with Gus Cawley, marketing manager for Rhythm clothing USA.
TruckerDeluxe: What was the original impetus behind Rhythm? Has that changed over the years? If so how?
Gus Cawley: Rhythm was launched in Australia as a reaction to the homogenization of the action sports industry. This remains the basis for the movement that we have created in the US as we draw on influences from art, music, and an outdoor lifestyle ( past, present, and future ) in catering to an open-minded, fashion-conscious, and creative global consumer.
Rhythm has been in Australia since 2003 but didn’t come state-side until 2010. Is there a difference between how the brand is perceived/accepted in the US as opposed to Australia? Have there been unique challenges to breaking into the American market?
The brand’s roots are as a trunk company, that will never change. As a result we were birthed into the states with strong brand recognition as a brand catered towards the surf and action sports market. Due to the perceived exclusivity of the action sports industry we have worked hard to incorporate and make visible all perspectives of the brand. The idea of excluding people because they do not look, act, or “fit” the part is one that we left behind in gradeschool. We stand behind our product offering 100% and believe strongly in offering everyone the opportunity to get on board with the sound of change.
How would you describe the overall feel of Rhythm, the overall aesthetic?
Rhythm is accessible, inclusive and fun with an unparralled dedication to tailoring and production value. We create a product range that speaks to the masses while maintaining authenticity through an honest depiction of who we are through our brand ambassadors, events, and advertising.
Along with surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders, you guys also work with bands and artists. Do you see Rhythm as being an action sports brand that has appeal to people outside of the typical action sports market? How does that inform the design process for Rhythm?
Rhythm appeals to anyone looking for expertly finished clothing at a fair price. Again, we view exclusion as a sign of weakness. We are confident in who we are and what we stand for and aim to appeal to people of all backgrounds with differing worldviews and futures. The guy who only surfs, and I mean only surfs, doesn’t eat, color, listen to music, look at photos on the internet, go shopping, etc. He doesn’t exist, and if he did he’d probably pretty boring. Our design process takes a well-balanced life into account and understands that you might go from a morning surf, to coffee with your girl, to 18 holes with your boys, to playing a show with your band that night. We offer product that can handle all of that because nodoby wants to slow down to change clothes.
Who is the prototypical Rhythm consumer, the guy your designers have in mind when creating your clothes?
I would hate to call our guy prototypical as we really believe in embracing the inherent uniqeness and creativity of all people. In short our guy maintains depth of character and lives a well-balanced life
It seems like Rhythm is big on bringing a certain measure of fun into your apparel. What do you guys do for fun when you’re not making/selling clothes?
A better question would be “when are you guys not having fun,” as fun is truly an integral part of everything that goes on here. Our office is a certified fun-zone where a typical day includes some balance of yoga, skating, coloring, playing music in the studio, BBQing, eating candy, and speaking in fake accents. Outside of the office there is surfing, more music making, more skating, hanging out in vans, snowboarding, listening to music, shooting photos, riding bikes, playing tennis, cloud-busting, lawn-bowling, golf, motorcycle riding, and probably a couple of other things. As long as no sharks or spiders are involved we are pretty much on board.
What do you guys have on deck for Fall and Winter 2011?
Our fall range is an eclectic yet collected ( maybe eclollectic ) range of pieces that bring the true flavor of Rhythm into clothing for cooler climates. The range journeys from crew neck sweatshirts to cowl neck pull overs to slim silhouetted chinos and back to trunks. We are incredibly excited about this winter as it marks the launch of the Rhythm Snow Outerwear Program to the US. Our team spent the season traveling everywhere from contests in Switzerland to video trips in Canada to events from Vermont to Southern California and really put the gear to the test. The Snow Range is a true testament to Rhythm’s ability to create the highest quality performance garments no matter your lifestyle.
