Lenny Kravitz on his Retro iPhone Handset

Just in case you forgot, in the year since we last reminded you, that Lenny Kravitz is still one cool ass dude, he took the streets of New York the other day wearing the obligatory all black everything, dystopian steampunk, urban Mad Max outfit, but topped it off with a seriously fucking badass retro handset for his iPhone. Thanks for the reminder Lenny. It’s almost like he was born long ago he’s the chosen he’s the one, like he has come to save the day, and he won’t leave until he’s done. But what I really want to know is: are you gonna go my way?

Facebook is Broken…And I Feel Fine

So Facebook is dead today. What are people who work on computers supposed to do with their days now? Work? How do you do that? What am I supposed to do with my iPhone? Call someone? Maybe it’s a good thing though. To let go of the network for a few hours. Maybe I can actually talk to the people I know tonight and ask them what they’re up to, without actually already knowing the answer?!  Man, this no Facebook thing might be pretty cool after all. What a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Or should I say e-emotions!

Here’s me on the way to work this morning, diligently lugging my laptop, aka Facebook machine, ready for another day in the social media mines.

This was my face when I got online and got ultimate 404 hate from Facebook.

But then I LOLed.

A new study has shown that iPhone users have more sexual partners than users of BlackBerrys or other smartphones. File under “you can’t make this stuff up”:

Dating site OkCupid has completed a study about its users’ smartphones and sexual history and has determined that among people who use smartphones, iPhone users have the most sexual partners, followed by BlackBerry users and finally Android users.OkCupid looked at the data hidden in the images that users uploaded as profile pictures to see which cameras were used to take them — including smartphone cameras. With many of the site’s users also having taken personality tests like “The Dating Persona Test” or “The Slut Test,” which ask for a count of sexual partners, the site was able to cross-reference that data to complete the study. In one approach, the survey sample was restricted to people aged 30. That way, differences in the usual ages of users of one smartphone type or another couldn’t affect the results. Among Android users aged 30, the average man had accumulated six sexual partners in his lifetime, while the average woman had accumulated 6.1. Among BlackBerry users, the number was 8.1 for men and 8.8 for women. Male iPhone users had 10 sexual partners and female iPhone users had 12.3

You can’t refute science baby! Just read ‘em and weep. Next time someone tells you that the iPhone isn’t worth the price, holler a hot link to this post and reap the pwnage.

If you have an iPhone, you might have noticed over the years that “full bars,” which is universal cell phone code for full signal strength, often means anything but. Years of dropped calls and spotty reception later, Apple has finally admitted that it’s system for determining signal strength on the iPhone was “totally wrong”:

The company said it will fix the formula to one recommended by AT&T Inc. through a free software update within a few weeks for the most recent iPhone models, 3G, 3GS and 4. However, the “wrong” formula goes back as far as the original iPhone, launched in 2007. AT&T, the iPhone’s exclusive carrier in the U.S., has borne much of the users’ blame for dropped calls and poor wireless performance. In saying that the phones have been showing too many bars, Apple is putting the spotlight on the network’s performance. AT&T declined comment Friday. If the phones haven’t been giving a good indication of signal strength, users may have been missing clues that they should go to a location with a better signal to place a call, or that they’re holding the phone wrong. Apple apologized to customers “for any anxiety we may have caused.” ”We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see,” the company said in the statement.

January can’t come soon enough… Also, thanks to Zak Miller, whoever you are, for putting your call-failed-with-full-bars screen cap online.

DO WANT:

Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S., two people familiar with the plans said. The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment. The iPhone, which has been the sole domain of rival AT&T in the U.S. since June 2007, will give Verizon a boost in its competition for smartphone customers, UBS AG analyst John Hodulik said in an interview. Verizon customers, who numbered 92.8 million at the end of the first quarter, may buy 3 million iPhones a quarter, he estimates.

As a loyal AT&T iPhone customer for the past two-and-a-half years, all I can say is: the day I can have an iPhone on ANY mobile carrier other than AT&T, will be a happy, happy day indeed. iPhones on Verizon, legal weed in California; what will 2011 think of next?
