When you spend your days trying to think of silly promotions, deals of the day and cheesy marketing gimmicks, you're bound to have a few ridiculous ideas that seem so bad they might just be good. But then you realize "The rest of the world might not think this is as funny as I did" and you move on to something far more generic and safe. Except if you're the guy at Thalia Surf Shop in Laguna Beach who greenlighted the Martin Luther King Jr. Day sale offering "20% off All Black Products." If you're that guy, you wait until the internet shit storm ensues before realizing the error of your ways. Thalia Surf Shop has since issued an apology, but the internet is never forgets. Until it does. And I guess on the plus side, people ARE coming to your site, and your search indexing is probably off the charts. But there's that whole 'trivializing one of the most important figures in the history American society, not to mention the extreme suffering and sacrifice endured by those who were involved in civil rights movement' thing. That might not be the greatest look. But what do I know? The best I could come up with was "20% off all XXL size clothes" when the Giants won the World Series. Get it? GIANTS? Eh...
